LAST CHANCE - Captain Morgans Dig and ride
If you have been thinking about taking time to help out with the creation of Captain Morgan’s - this is your last chance.
We will use this day to look over our work thus far to identify and fix any trouble spots on the full trail. We will also work on some armoring in the final turns before the flyover.
We will end the day with a ride on Morgans and a celebration on the trail including lunch and drinks as we close out an amazing year of trail development. Lunch will be provided FOLLOWING the group ride.
Meet at the Lower Jacks parking lot at 8:00am
Please bring: Long pants, a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, gloves, and close toed shoes. Bring a bike and gear if you intent to stay and ride.

Women’s Rampage Competition
Join COSMBA as we celebrate the progress women have made in the sport of mountain biking. Seven women will complete in the most rigorous of MTB competitions. Who will come out on top? Join us Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 7pm for the first ever Women’s Red Bull Rampage event in history.
Take a kid Mountain Biking
Join COSMBA and Criterium Bicycles at Fountain Creek Open Space in Fountain Colorado to introduce youth to the sport we love. For many of these youth, this will be their first opportunity to take a bike offroad and learn the fundamentals of mountain biking. Participation as a volunteer will mean facilitating skills through games, activities, and a group ride. The commitment is small, but the investment could be lifechanging for some of these kids.
Sign up as a volunteer using the eventbright link provided below from El Paso County. Be sure to specify you want to volunteer in Fountain Creek Open Space with COSMBA and Criterium.
Flyover Landing Upgrade Day #2
Turns out, Pikes Peak granite doesn’t hold it’s shape terribly well.
Following the completion of the Morgan’s flyover, the trail saw a massive increase in traffic from local riders but also riders all over the region and further away who read about the feature and accomplishment. This increased use saw the landing of the flyover quickly crumble away from it’s original slope and shape.
Hearing community feedback as well as our own riding experience caused us to keep a close eye on the landing and eventually meet with city staff to help them understand the concerns as well as discuss ideas on reworking the landing in an effort to lessen the impact on riders. Our meeting was a success and we managed to work out a great long term solution that will involve cinderblocks, clay binders, and a good amount of elbow grease.
Now it’s time to put the plan into action.
If you are a more experienced trail builder or aren’t afraid of some difficult work, join us Monday Sept. 23 or Tuesday Sept. 24 to upgrade the landing on Captain Morgan’s trail. It will be a technical challenge, but we are confident that we can meet the task.
Bring a hat, sunglasses, gloves, water, a lunch, long pants, and sturdy shoes.
As always, sign up is required!

Help us Rescue the Black Sheep!
COSMBA has been working in partnership with Parks staff to repair erosion damage to Black Sheep, our signature trail in Austin Bluffs. Summer rains did significant damage to our sandstone trails and Black Sheep is among those affected.
PLEASE join us on Sept. 20th to restore the Black Sheep to a ridable state. We will improve drainage in some areas, restore some features, and just generally get it into riding shape. There is a lot of work to be done, so we need all hands on deck!
And to give you more incentive, Bicycle Experience will be giving away a voucher for a front fork service to one lucky volunteer.
PLEASE BRING: Gloves, eye protection, hat, sunscreen, water, and sturdy close-toed shoes.
SIGN UP IS REQUIRED! Max participation is 15 people.
