Captain Morgan's Dig Day #1
Join us as we begin the journey of legitimizing one of COS’s best rogue trails towards inclusion within the city’s sanctioned trail system. We will not be making major alignment changes. Instead, we will focus on improving drainage, rerouting the trail’s exit, and constructing a “Flyover” feature which will separate a new climb trail that crosses Captain Morgan’s just 300 feet from the exit.
The steepness of the terrain will make for a unique challenge in creating this trail. But the effort will be well worth it when we christen the city’s first OFFICIAL double black diamond mountain bike trail in Colorado Springs.
SIGN UP IS REQUIRED FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS. Please Click here to sign up. Yes, we know this is happening on a Thursday. Yes, we know that’s inconvenient, but for now it’s all we can get.
We will meet at the lower Captain Jack’s lot and hike to the worksite. Please bring gloves, eye protection, water, a lunch, and work clothes.

Black Sheep Collab with SRAM and Criterium Bike Shop
This Dig Day is a collaborative effort with friends of COSMBA who make the cycling community in Colorado Springs so amazing. SRAM and Criterium Bike Shop have supported COSMBA from day one and this dig day is a way to show them how much we appreciate all they do in our community. Staff from both companies will join together to build one of the marquee features of Black sheep - a 5 foot drop that will take riders from the ridge behind Pulpit Rock into the current alignment on the southern slope of the landmark.
Black Sheep - New Construction
With edits finished, we will begin construction on the top portion of the trail behind Pulpit Rock. This section will ride along the saddle of Pulpit Rock and then dump into the current alignment that hugs the southern slope of the rock.
We will remove some scrub oak as well as cut new trail all the way from a future rock drop into the current alignment.
June 3 is also National Trails Day. We will celebrate this day the best way Mountain Bikers know how - digging great trail.
