Stratton OS Wildfire Mitigation to begin soon

The City of Colorado Springs is starting a project to reduce the risk of wildfire in Stratton Open Space. The project will involve a variety of measures, including thinning trees, removing brush, and creating firebreaks.

The goals of the project are to:

  • Reduce the risk of wildfire to homes and businesses bordering the open space

  • Protect wildlife habitat and other natural resources

  • Improve the ability of firefighters to access the area in the event of a wildfire

The project is expected to begin in the coming days and will be completed in phases. During construction, there may be closures of some trails in the area. However, the open space will remain open to the public.

For more information about the project, please visit the Stratton Open Space Webpage here. To see the full presentation provided June 26, click here.
