35 Women volunteer for Annual Women’s Dig Day

More than three dozen women gathered at Austin Bluffs Open Space on Saturday, August 2, for the annual Women's Workday, a testament to the power of community and a shared passion for mountain biking. The event, led by the Colorado Springs Mountain Bike Association (COSMBA) in partnership with the Rocky Mountain Field Institute (RMFI), brought together 35 volunteers who dedicated their morning to improving local trails.

The impact of their collective effort was immediately apparent. In just a few hours, the group contributed an impressive 140 volunteer hours, focusing on crucial maintenance and enhancements within the park. The day's projects included hand-finishing a trail reroute and performing much-needed upkeep on the popular Black Sheep trail, ensuring a better and safer experience for all trail users.

The atmosphere was buzzing with energy and camaraderie. New friendships were forged as women from all corners of the local cycling community worked side-by-side, their shared purpose creating an instant bond. One participant captured the spirit of the day perfectly: "Thanks for creating the space for our rad community of women to come together with a shared purpose – making riding in COS better! New connections were formed, trail was repaired, and ultimately the collaboration was fantastic! What an impactful morning in the dirt showcasing our closeknit community of cyclists. Thank you!"

Events like the Women's Workday, with the generous support of sponsors like Heuberger Subaru, Picnic Basket Catering, and SRAM are a vital part of what makes the Colorado Springs cycling scene so special. They are a powerful reminder that with a little teamwork and a lot of heart, a small group of dedicated individuals can make a huge difference. The improved trails at Austin Bluffs are a lasting legacy of this inspiring day of stewardship.
